DESCRIPTION

The Church of Saint John the Evangelist, known as San Giovanni Fuorcivitas is an important Romanesque complex. At the time of its Longobardian foundation, the church was located outside the first circle of the city walls, hence the name of Fuorcivitas. The façade is covered with green and white lines, made of the green marble (serpentine) of Prato and white marble, and inside is the marble Holy Water font, partly made by Giovanni and Nicola Pisano. There are many sculptures and paintings preserved by artists from the 1300s.
