DESCRIPTION

The Basilica of Santa Maria Novella and the annexed convent were founded by Dominicans in the thirteenth century. The marble facade of Santa Maria Novella is one of the most important works of the Florentine Renaissance. Inside, its floor plan is shaped like a cross and divided into three naves with six large bays. Among the works of art kept inside: the Holy Trinity by Masaccio, the great Crucifix by Giotto and the Nativity by Sandro Botticelli.
