DESCRIPTION
Piombino is one of the main towns on the Costa degli Etruschi. The focal point of Tuscany’s iron and steel industry, it is the second biggest port in the region after Livorno. The historic centre is partially protected by a circle of walls, with stretches of wall attributed to Leonardo da Vinci still visible. Among the town’s more significant sights are: Piazza Bovio, the biggest seafront piazza in Europe, the military fortress of Torrione e Rivellino, and the Archaeological Museum of Populonia.
