The city is located approximately 12 km from the sea, adjacent to the Maremma Regional Park. The old town centre is surrounded by medieval city walls and, within it, there are precious monuments such as: the Cathedral, the Palazzo Aldobrandeschi, the Church of San Francesco and the Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall).
