DESCRIPTION
The Piagnaro Castle is located on a hill overlooking the historic center of Pontremoli. It was built around the year 1000 using the piagne, from which it takes its name, gray sandstone slabs typical of the Lunigiana quarries. The castle has a central part consisting of an impressive keep, and traces of the lift bridge are still visible today. Used for centuries as a barracks, today it houses the Museum of Lunigiana Stele Statues.
