DESCRIPTION

The Biblioteca Riccardiana is a public state library specialising in the conservation, valorisation and protection of its manuscript and rare printed collections and has its historical seat in the Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Via Ginori. The project for the construction of the family palace was entrusted by Cosimo il Vecchio to Michelozzo, who realised it in the years 1449-1450.
The Riccardi, one of the richest and most powerful Florentine families, purchased the palace in Via Larga from the Medici in 1659 and after appropriate restoration and extension work, their book and art collection was housed there.
