DESCRIPTION
The village of Altopascio stands along the Via Francigena, about 20 km from Lucca. The Spedale di Altopascio was built here to provide assistance to pilgrims. Overlooking Piazza Ospitalieri, there is the ancient hospital with its cloister, now a loggia, as well as the Piaggione building and the Romanesque church of San Jacopo.
