DESCRIPTION

Abbadia San Salvatore is a medieval village standing on the slopes of Mount Amiata. Famous for its cinnabar mines, which were in use until the 1970s, it is equally famous for its abbey of the same name, founded by the Lombards. Among the historical monuments of interest: the Church of San Leonardo dating back to the 13th century, the sixteenth century Church of Madonna dei Remedi, the Palazzo della Podestà dating back to the 15th century and the Mining Museum.
