In partnership with Cinecittà Spa and ITA and in concert with the key industry organizations, the Ministry of Culture (MiC) has renewed a €1.2 million fund to incentivize the theatrical distribution of Italian films worldwide

The contribution provides incentives for the theatrical distribution of films in a foreign country, providing 30% of the P&A costs for a total of €30k per title per country. Individual applications must be made for each territory, except for specific combinations such as: Belgium & Luxembourg, Greece & Cyprus, Switzerland & Lichtenstein. In these cases, the distributor must have legal headquarters in one of the two countries.

The contribution will be assigned in three sessions, each worth €400k, with the following deadlines:  30 March, 30 June, 30 September 2022.

All applications submitted by 30 March 2022 will be considered as Call I. Films released between 1 April 2022 and the publishing date of the Call may submit applications up to 30 July 2022.

The beneficiaries of the grant are the foreign distributors: owners of the theatrical rights to the Italian film in an individual territory who must commit to bearing all the costs inherent to distribution of the film, guarantee at least one week of ordinary programming in cinemas and include the grant received in their accounting with licensors, to reduce the associated costs.

In addition, to mitigate the effects of the Covid – 19 pandemic and the delayed return to full activity of cinema theatres worldwide, VOD (SVOD and TVOD) releases will be considered equal to theatrical releases for the 2022 calls (only). Therefore, foreign distributors submitting applications and guaranteeing a VOD release within the terms outlined in the Call (6 months from the date of submission of the grant application) may include marketing and publicity costs as eligible expenses for P&A reimbursement.
