Premiered at the 74th Cannes Film Festival in 2021, the movie shot partly in Tuscany
At the end of the 17th century, Italy is ravaged by the plague. Benedetta Carlini (Virginie Efira) entered the convent of Pescia, Tuscany and from an early age, she had been noted for performing miracles. Her entry into the monastic community radically changed the lives of her fellow sisters.
The film was released in Italian theatres on March 2nd.
The film Benedetta, directed by Dutch director Paul Verhoeven (Basic Instinct, Elle, Showgirls) was partly shot between the regions of Tuscany and Umbria in 2018. The villages of Montepulciano, San Quirico d’Orcia and Bevagna are recognisable, as well as the historical centre of Perugia.
