DESCRIPTION

The Asciano – Monte Antico Railway is a railway line, designed in 1859, which connects the towns of Siena and Grosseto. Known as the Val d’Orcia Railway, it connects the municipality of Asciano (Siena) to the hamlet of Monte Antico (Grosseto) crossing through the Val d’Orcia Park, the areas of Brunello di Montalcino and the Crete Senesi. The line, closed to normal passenger traffic in 1994, is now used as a tourist railway with the help of historic steam locomotives.
