DESCRIPTION
A hamlet in Sorano (GR), Sovana is a Medieval and Renaissance borgo of Etruscan origin, known – as are Sorano and Pitigliano – as the “city of tuff”, because of the characteristic Vie Cave. The borgo contains ancient tombs, necropoles and medieval fortifications such as the ruins of the 11th century Rocca Aldobrendesca whose decline began in the 17th century circa.
