DESCRIPTION

Built in the 16th century, Piazza Alberica is the largest historical square in Carrara. The monument with a fountain dedicated to Maria Beatrice d’Este, Duchess of Massa and Carrara, stands in the centre of the square. The square is surrounded by seventeenth-century buildings such as Palazzo delle Logge and Palazzo dei Conti del Medico. The paving is particularly noteworthy, covered with marble inlays from the nearby quarries of the Apuan Alps.
