DESCRIPTION
Isola Santa is a district of the municipality of Careggine, in the province of Lucca. It is a small town located in the Apuan Alps, in Garfagnana. It is located 550m above sea level, and looks out over an artificial lake filled with water from the Turrite Secca stream, which is held back by a dam that was built in 1948-49, partially submerging the old town. It was probably used as a hospice in the Late Medieval period.
